Rafting with children: age rules, child fares and what parents have to decide themselves

Last updated

On the rafting from Side children aged 4 to 11 take part and pay €12 instead of €18; rafting is not recommended under 4, and from 12 the adult fare applies. On the departures from Belek, Antalya and Alanya the minimum age for the rafting is 7; from Antalya and Alanya infants aged 0 to 3 come along free at the riverside. Helmet and life jacket are fitted for children in their own size.

The age rules, departure by departure

The operator sets the age rules for each departure, and they are not the same everywhere. So here is the list before you book anywhere:

  • From Side: children aged 4 to 11 take part at the child fare of €12. From 12 the adult fare of €18 applies. Rafting is not recommended under 4.
  • From Belek: minimum age for the rafting is 7, child fare for ages 7 to 11.
  • From Antalya: minimum age for the rafting is 7. Younger children join the riverside picnic only; infants aged 0 to 3 come along free.
  • From Alanya: minimum age for the rafting is 7, infants aged 0 to 3 free.
  • Each child is booked in the age band that matches their age on the day of the tour — that decides the fare and the equipment.

What ‘not recommended under 4’ means in practice

The wording is the operator's, and we use it as it stands. In practice it means a child under 4 does not belong in the raft on the rafting from Side. They cannot sit on the outer tube, cannot understand a command, and there is no jacket fitted for their size.

If you are travelling with a toddler and still want to raft, message us before you book. We will check with the operator what is possible on your day, instead of promising you childcare here that is not listed for the Side departure. For the Antalya and Alanya departures the rule is clear: infants aged 0 to 3 come along free at the riverside.

Same route, same equipment, same guide

Children do not get a children's version of the river. It is the same 12 kilometres on the Köprüçay, the same rapids and the same swimming stops the guide allows. What is adapted for children is the equipment: helmet and life jacket in a child's size, pulled tight at the rafting base before anyone boards.

And what applies to children exactly as to adults: the safety briefing, the practice on calm water and the guide's commands. A child on the river is part of the crew. They sit in the boat, hold on when the guide says so, and paddle when they can.

What parents have to decide themselves

The minimum age is a floor, not a promise. Whether your child enjoys or merely endures a day on the river at 4, 5 or 6, you know better than we do. Three questions help, and they are more honest than any age limit:

  • Does your child stay calm when they get wet unexpectedly? In a raft water comes over the side without warning.
  • Can they sit still for a while and hold on when a stranger tells them to? The instructions come from the guide, not from you.
  • Will they last a whole day — morning pickup, the drive into the canyon, rafting, lunch, and the drive back in the late afternoon?

The day with children: what to expect

It is a long day. Hotel pickup is generally around 08:00 to 08:30, with the exact time confirmed after booking. You are back at the hotel roughly between 16:30 and 18:30 — the spread depends on the size of the group, the number of activities, the operator's schedule, traffic and the river. Between the rafting and the drive back, waiting time is part of the day; the base has a riverside restaurant, shade, toilets and showers.

Lunch by the river is included for children as for adults. Drinks are not — teach the child that before they are standing at the till. Pack swimwear (ideally already on), a towel, a full dry change of clothes and sunscreen. And shoes: children's feet need strapped shoes that can get wet too. Flip-flops are not allowed on the river, for anyone.

Combo tours with children

All the combo packages from Side use the same 4-to-11 child band at their own child fare, because the rafting in them is the same. On the quad and the buggy a child can ride as a passenger instead of driving — nobody has to steer a vehicle to be part of it. On the zipline package a guest who would rather not fly can watch from the river without the package price changing.

Whether a package makes sense for your child depends less on age than on the day: three activities mean a longer day and more waiting in between. For a first time, the rafting-only tour at €18 per person and €12 per child is often the better choice.

How to book with children

Enter each child in the age band that matches their age on the day. In the ‘anything we should know’ field, write what the guide should know: an anxious child, a non-swimmer, an allergy at lunch. You pay on the day of the tour; nothing is charged online. And if you are unsure beforehand whether the day suits your child, message us — we will tell you honestly what we think and clear the rest with the operator. The details of the tour are on the rafting from Side page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

From what age can children join the rafting from Side?

From 4. Children aged 4 to 11 pay the child fare; from 12 the adult fare applies. Rafting is not recommended under 4.

How much does a child pay on the rafting from Side?

€12 for children aged 4 to 11, against €18 for adults. Transfer, equipment, guide, insurance and lunch are included in the child fare just the same; drinks are extra.

Can my 2-year-old come along?

Not in the raft — under 4, rafting from Side is not recommended. From Antalya and Alanya infants aged 0 to 3 come along free at the riverside. Message us before you book and we will check what is possible on your day.

Does my child need to be able to swim?

No. The life jacket is fitted in a child's size and carries the child, and a guide sits in the boat. Tell us when you book if your child cannot swim or is nervous in water.

Why is the minimum age 7 from Belek, Antalya and Alanya?

The operator sets it for each departure, and we publish the rule as it stands in each tour record. For families with younger children the Side departure is therefore often the right one.

What if my child gets scared on the river?

Tell the guide — they are in the boat and decide how to continue. Nobody is pushed into the water. If you already fear this beforehand, message us before you book.
